While we have been discussing the effectiveness of games for Alzheimer's, we have not considered the popular alternative of drugs. Here is an interesting story we happened across that gave us a fresh perspective on the effectiveness of some drugs for Alzheimer's Disease. Have you heard about Neurochem (NRMX) and their drug, Alzhemed? Alzhemed is Neurochem's drug for treating Alzheimer's Disease. And it doesn't work.
We found ourselves wondering, what medication to Alzheimer's patients take today? How do these drugs work?
As we have been architecting the engine for our Alzheimer's games, we have also been talking to people affected by Alzheimer's Disease.
In designing games for Alzheimer's patients, we happened across a book that places great importance on music and musical cues in activities for Alzheimer's patients.
Alzheimer's Disease: bad.
Playing Video games: fun!
Playing video games to fight or prevent Alzheimer's Disease: healthy fun!
Here are 3 ways that playing video games can help fight Alzheimer's Disease (based on research shared on the world wide web--read some of what we found in our blogs, Video Games as a Cure for Alzheimer's Disease, and Alzheimer's Study Says Games are Great!):
We found another study that indicates the beneficial effects of playing association games for Alzheimer's patients. This would be the fifth article we have found supporting the fact, so we are quite convinced that there is a real need for our association games and brain games. The other articles can be found in our previous blogs, "Video Games as a Cure for Alzheimer's Disease" and "New Findings for Alzheimer's Disease".
Many an alzheimer's study has found that playing association games, as well as other brain games, results in overall resistance to Alzheimer's Disease. Our previous blog about New Findings for Alzheimer's Disease introduced two such studies that observed the healing effects of games. Here are a few more Alzheimer's Studies that arrived at similar conclusions.
Our study of Alzheimer's Disease has taught us one surprising fact: Doctors do not understand the disease. They can only describe what symptoms it seems to have, who it might affect, and most shockingly what seems to fight its onset and progression. Due to limited understanding of Alzheimer's Disease, new cures are actively being researched. Among these cures is the interesting new finding that playing games may help prevent or fight Alzheimer's Disease!
We discussed causes of Alzheimer's Disease (Read more here (opens a new window)). We also covered symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease (Read more here (opens a new window)). Having a peripheral recognition of Alzheimer's through these previous studies, we now learn about how Doctors recognize Alzheimer's Disease.
